Homemade crackers might sound like an intimidating endeavor, but they’re actually quite accessible. The simple ingredients mix up in minutes, and you’re ready to roll them out on cookie sheets and season as desired. Deliciously munchable and packed with all the goodness of sprouted whole grains, this is such a satisfying project!
Ingredients:
- 1 1/2 cups sprouted flour of choice (Spelt and Einkorn are great options)
- 1/2 cup whole milk
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 3/4 teaspoon baking powder
- 2 tablespoons melted butter
Preheat oven to 425 degrees. Thoroughly mix all ingredients together. Divide dough into two equal portions. Place each half on a greased or parchment paper-lined cookie sheet or baking stone. Roll out dough very thinly, about 1/8 inch or less. Sprinkle with desired seasonings (optional), and cut into squares with a pizza cutter or sharp knife. Bake for 15-30 minutes, until crisp and lightly browed.
Tips:
- After seasoning, run the roller over it again to press the seasonings into the dough.
- If you’re unsure if the crackers are crispy enough, remove from oven and set sit for a minute to check; they often harden up on cooling.
- If the edges start to get too brown, remove them and return the center to the oven.
Seasoning Options
- Fresh cracked black pepper and sea salt
- Parmesan cheese
- Herbs
- Garlic salt
- Poppy and caraway seeds
